Has your pet had a checkup in the last 6 months? If not, please contact your vet to schedule one ASAP.
Why do I need to get my pet a checkup?
You’ll be asked to upload medical records from a recent checkup when you submit a claim. Those records will show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which will allow us to process your claim quickly.
What kind of medical records should I ask for?
To make sure you get the right kind of medical records, tell your vet you need “SOAP notes.” The records you receive should include any exam notes and lab results. Please keep the medical records somewhere safe so you have them when you need them.
What happens if I don’t get my pet a checkup?
Without the medical records from a checkup, we might not be able to process your claims at all. (In other words: There’s a chance we won’t be able to pay you back.)
Is the checkup covered?
Checkups are considered routine and preventive care, which we don’t cover. But getting your pet a checkup is the key to maximizing your coverage — it ensures that we’ll be able to cover as many new conditions as possible.
What is the waiting period?
The waiting period, of up to 15 days, begins on the first effective day of your policy. We’ll email you on day one with all of the details.
Here’s what you need to know about the waiting period:
Accident or illness claims
We cover conditions that occur after the waiting period of up to 15 days.
Any claims you submit for injuries or illnesses during the waiting period will not be covered.
Any accident, injury or illness that occurs during the waiting period will be considered a pre-existing condition, which means it won’t be eligible for coverage.
There’s also a 6-month waiting period before injuries of the hips and knees can be covered. But you can waive the waiting period for knee injuries by having your pet examined by a vet within 30 days after enrollment to determine that they don’t have any relevant pre-existing conditions.
