She chose February 3 — Quincey's birthday — as the perfect date to honor these remarkable dogs.

Golden Retrievers hold the distinction of being the third most popular dog breed in the United States, following French Bulldogs and Labrador Retrievers. Their consistent ranking reflects their reputation as outgoing, trustworthy and eager-to-please companions who maintain their playful, puppy-like behavior well into adulthood.

When is National Golden Retriever Day?

National Golden Retriever Day may take place on February 3, but the celebrations often extend throughout the week, with events and meetups scheduled on nearby weekends to accommodate more participants.

One of the most spectacular celebrations happens in Golden, Colorado, where the annual "Goldens in Golden" event draws thousands of Golden Retrievers and their families. The 2025 gathering attracted over 3,000 dogs, transforming the downtown area into a sea of golden fur, wagging tails and happy faces.
