Lindsey Vonn’s dogs: meet the loyal duo supporting her Olympic comeback

Lindsey Vonn is no stranger to the uphill climb. As she prepares for a historic return to competitive skiing at the 2026 Olympics, the world-renowned athlete is once again showing the grit that defined her career. But while her training takes place on the slopes, her heart remains at home with her furry support system: her pups Leo and Chance. For Lindsey, being a devoted pet parent isn't just a hobby — it’s a lifestyle that has helped her through some of her toughest physical and emotional hurdles.

A long-time dog mom, the Olympic gold medalist previously shared her life with several beloved companions who have since passed away. Her pack once included Lucy, the adventurous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who was a constant fixture at press events, and Bear, the gentle giant who was by her side during her initial retirement. These pets paved the way for the deep bond she share.

Leo: the senior statesman

Leo is the undisputed patriarch of the Vonn pack. A rescue with a personality that charms everyone he meets, Leo’s story began with a stroke of fate. Lindsey adopted him from a shelter in Florida back in 2014 after he had been overlooked by other potential adopters due to a bad knee. Lindsey felt an immediate connection to the pup who needed a little extra TLC, having just dropped out of the Sochi Olympics due to her own leg injuries. She introduced Leo to the world on Instagram with the caption “I adopted Leo today from an animal shelter and he has cheered me up so much! He was hit by a car and has a bad knee. Maybe we can do rehab together!”

10 years after bringing Leo home, Lindsey reflected on how much Leo has helped during her ups and downs, writing, “Dogs are the best medicine in times like these… I adopted Leo right before my 2nd ACL surgery and he’s been with me through all my surgeries since. Leo was hit by a car before I adopted him and he’s got almost as many screws in his leg as I do. He never likes it when I cry but he always knows when I’m hurt and he doesn’t leave my side. I think he knows what it feels like. Just thankful I have my pups.”

Now a senior at 13 years old, Leo has transitioned from a playful rescue to a seasoned companion who has seen Lindsey through championships and surgeries alike. However, their bond was tested recently when Leo was diagnosed with cancer. Lindsey has been open about the emotional toll of his health battle, sharing updates about his treatments and his incredible resilience. Despite the diagnosis, Leo remains a fighter.

Chance: the newest team member

While Leo provides the wisdom of a senior, the energy in the household reached new heights with the arrival of Lindsey Vonn’s dog Chance. Chance is a more recent addition, joining the family as a puppy in August 2025. Lindsey introduced the adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to her fans via social media, expressing her excitement over the newest member of the family.

Chance represents a new chapter for Lindsey, bringing a sense of playfulness and curiosity to her daily routine. Since joining the family, Chance has already proved to be a perfect travel companion, taking right to the snow and having his first big adventure on a trip to Chile in October. “Life on the road isn’t always easy but thankful I have my boy Chance here with me,” Lindsey recently wrote on Instagram.

As Lindsey Vonn prepares to take on the world once more, her dogs remain her biggest fans. Their presence offers a sense of normalcy and joy that balances the intensity of professional sports. Between the senior wisdom of Leo and the puppy energy of Chance, Lindsey truly has the best teammates a pet parent could ask for.
