“Our first emergency happened when Pablo was about a year and a half and accidentally ate a lot of xylitol candy, which is super toxic for dogs and cats. I had stepped out for an appointment for only about 30 minutes, but when I came home, Pablo had vomited 7 times on the floor and was laying there, not looking good. When I saw the bag of candy, I realized what had happened and I grabbed Pablo and immediately took him to the emergency vet. This was the middle of the pandemic, and it was terrible. I was sobbing.
