“It was a Saturday morning and he was vomiting all over the bed. He wasn’t eating, he wasn’t using the bathroom and he was lethargic. So I waited a couple of hours and then I found an emergency vet. They took a look at him, they gave him some fluids, they did an X-ray. They said they didn't see anything. So I took him home and he didn’t get any better.
Then it’s Sunday, he’s not improving. Monday, he’s not improving. He hasn’t eaten now for 3 days, which for a bulldog is crazy. I take him back to the vet Tuesday and they want to do an ultrasound on him. They do that, and they spot this piece of a toy in his digestive tract and they need to do surgery immediately. He had that surgery, and they had him for one overnight. He bounced back pretty quickly — and then the bills came. I got a bill for the emergency vet, and then I got a bill from my regular vet. I had this pet insurance for all these years but I’d never used it for [an emergency.] I’d taken him in for other things, but they’d been much smaller. This is a scenario where pet insurance really comes in handy.”
